San Luis Obispo, CA March
30, 2007 Thursday
March 29th 2007 is a proud day that will be long remembered by
San Luis Obispo County residents and law makers alike as the San Luis
Obispo Regional Transit Authority unveiled their new Gasoline Hybrid bus to
an enthusiastic public at a dedication ceremony that included SCAT Board of
Directors President John Shoals, SCAT board members as well as City Council
members. Addressing
the crowd during the ribbon cutting ceremony, Regional Transit Manager
David Lilly stated “Buy entering revenue service today, SLORTA and SCAT
become the very first Transit Agency in the Central Coast and in San Luis
Obispo County to have Gasoline Electric Hybrid vehicles in service, and
emphasizes our commitment to our environment by making socially and
environmentally responsible choices”. “We
are very excited about our transition to clean Hybrid technology” Mr. Lilly
told the crowd, “and we are especially pleased to announce today that we
have placed an order for three additional units that we expect to have in
service by the end of the year”
“these vehicles have no detectable Particulate Matter emissions and
virtually no NOx emissions, which helps us win the fight against greenhouse
gases.” Additional
benefits Mr. Lilly pointed out included the fact that Gasoline Electric
Hybrid vehicles do not require hundreds of thousands of dollars of
explosion proofing to existing maintenance facilities and save transit
agencies millions of dollars of fueling equipment needed to run CNG
vehicles. Complete
Coach Works is proud to have been selected as the supplier of these super
clean “Green Buses” to SLORTA and we look forward to building the next
three buses stated Macy Neshati of Complete Coach Works, “these buses are
the ultimate in socially responsible choices, not only are they running the
cleanest commercially available drive systems, but instead of disposing of
the bus, you are recycling an older bus and extending its useful life.” The San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority
(SLORTA) was formed through a joint powers agreement (JPA) between the
County of San Luis Obispo and each of the seven cities incorporated within
the County (Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, El Paso de Robles, Grover Beach,
Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, and San Luis Obispo) to provide intercity fixed
route service and ADA paratransit service throughout San Luis Obispo
